چکیده

In order fully to exploit energy of wind power the construction elements of the wind turbine should be inspected periodically. Ultrasonic air-coupled technique using guided waves has been selected for inspection of wind turbine blades, because only one side access is enough and no contact is needed. Dispersion curves of phase velocities as well as leakage losses versus frequency were calculated using numerical global matrix model. Taking into account the results of the performed simulations the frequency of the ultrasonic transducers was selected to be 290 kHz due to non-dispersive region of phase velocities. The ultrasonic air-coupled technique using guided waves was used for investigation of the artificial internal defects in the wind turbine blade. These defects (diameter 19 mm and 49 mm) were made on the internal side of the main spar. From the ultrasonically obtained images it is possible to recognise the geometry of defects and to estimate approximate dimensions of the defects.

Ultrasonic NDT of wind turbine blades using contact pulse-echo immersion testing with moving water container

Wind turbine blades are complicated objects for inspection because they have a curved surface, are multi-layered, have variable thickness and are made from anisotropic materials. Ultrasonic contact pulse-echo immersion testing with moving water container has been selected for inspection of wind turbine blades, because this type of the inspection can be performed having access just from the one ...

Spectral Finite Element Method for Propagation of Guided Elastic Waves in Wind Turbine Blades for SHM Purposes

Certain results of numerical simulations obtained by the use of the spectral finite element method in time domain are presented by the authors. They were selected in order to show the effectiveness of the spectral finite element method for investigation of problems associated with propagation of guided elastic waves in a wind turbine laminated composite blade. Results of these simulations were ...

Single Crystal Turbine Blade Inspection Using a 2d Ultrasonic Array

In this paper a non-destructive method for inspecting jet-engine turbine blades for root cracking is developed. This method utilises 2D ultrasonic arrays to enable the detection and characterisation of sub-surface cracks in three-dimensions. The majority of modern turbine blades are manufactured from single crystals of nickel based superalloys which exhibit high elastic anisotropy. This complic...

Application of guide blades for improving performance of savonius wind turbine

Application of guide blades is an appropriate method for improving aerodynamic performance of savonius wind turbine. Guide blades gather the wind energy around the turbine and guide them into the concave side of savonius rotor. In this paper, numerical investigation is conducted for evaluating effect of the guide blades on the performance of savonius turbine. Aerodynamic performance of the turb...
